Is there a difference between insolvency and bankruptcy?

Yes. Insolvency is a “state of being” where a person is unable to pay the bills or loans as they become due. Bankruptcy is a legal state where a person has legally declared his or her inability to pay back a loan or to pay off a bill. While there is a difference, insolvency frequently leads to bankruptcy.
