Can I stop foreclosure by filing for bankruptcy?

The answer to this question depends on a variety of factors. The most important factor is whether the person filing decide to file under Chapter 7 or Chapter 13. If a person files under Chapter 13, foreclosure may be stopped if the bank hasn’t already filed all of the necessary paperwork. Under Chapter 7, foreclosure cannot be stopped.
