Can I discharge alimony payments I haven’t paid?
Generally, a person cannot discharge alimony payments in arrears. If the person to whom alimony is being paid has reassigned the debt to someone else, like a parent, loan shark, or independently wealthy friend, then the debt owed to that agency can be discharged. Also, if the court is forcing a person to make “alimony” payments to a corporation but they’re not really alimony payments, then they can also be discharged.
