Can a person in bankruptcy use his old bank account?

In most cases, no. When a person files for bankruptcy, the bank that holds the accounts will start with freezing the accounts and then will usually end up closing the accounts. There are special “basic bank accounts” that individuals who have recently gone through bankruptcy can use to rebuild their credit score and store money until they are eligible for more advanced bank accounts again.
