Scammers and Foreclosure
Foreclosure becomes more common when the economy takes a dip. Unfortunately, this means that scams surrounding foreclosure also become more common. This is a terrible thing, but you can avoid these scams by looking for certain signs.
Foreclosure scams tend to be lumped in three basic categories. These are as follows:
House Stealing
In this method, the scammers will find some way to get the owner to give them the house. This is a great way for the scammer to take advantage of the homeowner.
Sale and Leaseback
When foreclosure is imminent homeowners may look for any way in which they can keep the house. Scammers will often play off of this, offering to buy the house and lease it back until the owner can buy the house back. However, the scammer will often make it impossible for the owner to repurchase the house.
Fees without Service
Through this method, the scammer will assume the role of a foreclosure consultant. Through this role, the scammer will charge fees for services that the homeowner could have easily done on his or her own.
To avoid these scams, it is important to remember that actual foreclosure consultants will never contact you. You must seek them out on your own. In addition, signing you home away to some unknown person is never a legitimate option.
