How to Stick to a Budget
Many people have found that they have no problems creating a budget for their financial life. The problem they have is sticking to that budget paycheck after paycheck. Much like going to the gym or any sort of activity that requires discipline, sticking to a budget is all about goals.
One of the easiest goals to set is to save $100 or $50 or some amount of money without missing it. One of the easiest ways to do that is by not spending any change. If a pack of gum costs fifty cents, break the dollar. Don’t just hand over two quarters or some other configuration of change. At the end of the day, removing the coins from a wallet, purse, or pocket will result in savings that will add up. This idea has been utilized by a bank in which purchases made with a debit card are rounded up to the next dollar amount and the difference in the purchase price and the charged price is transferred to a savings account.
Another way of setting a goal is by putting a certain amount of money away each week or month in the effort of affording a trip or a new computer or something that is wanted by the budget maker. If a person is saving money or living well within his or her means for a reason, it is much more likely to become a routine that does not have to be thought about.
